Economy, Forestry and FishingIn 2000 the timber harvest from Guyana’s extensive forests was 467,000 cubic meters (16.5 million cubic feet). Almost all of the harvest was made up of hardwoods, used mainly in construction, furniture-making, and as fuel. Fishing is concentrated along the Atlantic coast. The catch in 1997 was 57,409 metric tons. Shrimp are a valuable product.
