Al Mukalla, Hadhramaut, Yarim, izz, Tarim

Yemen has four major cities: Sana‘a, the political capital (population, 1995 estimate, 972,000); Aden (562,000); Al ?udaydah (155,110); and Ta‘izz, (178,043). Aden has been designated the economic capital of united Yemen and is the country’s largest port, followed by Al ?udaydah. Ta‘izz is an important commercial and light industrial center. Among Yemen’s larger towns are Sa‘dah, far to the north; Dhamar, Yarim, and Ibb, in the middle region; Al Mukalla, on the southern coast; and in Hadhramaut, the towns of Shibam, Say‘un, and Tarim.
