Most of the world production of cloves comes from Zanzibar and Pemba islands, and are the islandsí principal export. For the country as a whole, chief exports are coffee, cotton, and tobacco. Tea, sisal, cashews, and peppers are also exported. The principal food crops for domestic consumption include cassava, corn, sorghum, rice, millet, sweet potatoes, and plantains. The livestock population includes 14.4 million cattle, 10 million goats, 4.3 million sheep, and 31.6 million poultry.
