Inkatha Freedom Party, New National Party, African National Congress, major parties, National Assembly

The dominant South African political party is the African National Congress (ANC), which won two-thirds of the seats in the National Assembly in June 1999 elections. The other major parties are the Democratic Party, the Inkatha Freedom Party, and the New National Party (formerly the National Party). Smaller parties in the National Assembly include the United Democratic Movement, African Christian Democratic Party, Freedom Front, United Christian-Democratic Party, and Pan-African Congress of Azania.
