Sopi, Wolof, Socialist Party, PSD, National Assembly

After April 2001 elections, the largest party in the National Assembly was the Sopi (Wolof for “change”) coalition, dominated by the Senegalese Democratic Party (PSD). Smaller parties included the Alliance of Progressive Forces and the Socialist Party, which was the ruling party of Senegal from the time of independence in 1960 until 2000.
