National Bank of Rwanda, centimes, issuing bank, Motor vehicles, European countries

The currency is the Rwanda franc, consisting of 100 centimes (390 Rwanda francs equal U.S.$1; 2000 average). The National Bank of Rwanda (1964) is the issuing bank. The chief exports, coffee and tea, are shipped primarily to Germany and other European countries. Motor vehicles, fuels, textiles, and machinery are imported, mainly from Belgium, Kenya, France, and Germany. Exports earned $53 million in 2000, while imports cost $213 million. Trade virtually ceased during 1994 but has been recovering.
