Bangui, chief city, estimated population, western half, census

The population of the Central African Republic was determined by the census of 1975 to be 2,054,610; the 2002 estimated population was 3,642,739. Most of the population is concentrated in the western half of the country, where Bangui (population, 1996 estimate, 524,000), the capital and chief city, is located.
