Angola, EconomyAngola’s economy has suffered severe setbacks since independence. The shortage of skilled workers after the departure of the Portuguese and the devastation from the long-running civil war have hampered economic growth. The upsurge in fighting that occurred in the 1990s severely disrupted agricultural production, leading to famine conditions in many parts of Angola and a dependence on food relief from international organizations.
