Economy, ManufacturingMineral processing is the primary manufacturing activity in the DRC, followed by petroleum and cement production. Other manufactured products include tires, shoes, textiles, cigarettes, beer, and processed food. During the early and mid-1990s, when the country experienced significant unrest, industrial activity declined substantially. In 1995 manufacturing accounted for 5 percent of GDP. Industry, which includes manufacturing, mining, and construction, provided 13 percent of employment.
